This is the start of an all-around material creator addon for Blender.
It's simple to use, integrates well with the assets browser, and simplifies batch creation of materials from textures.

How do I use it?
- Open a new Blender file and save it in your resources library.
It's recommended to disable packing for this file. - Install and enable the Material Creator addon.
- Copy and paste the path of your textures library.
If the texture path is "C:\Assets\Textures\Wood 01\wood_01_diffuse.jpg" the path should be "C:\Assets\Textures", and the material name will be "Wood 01".
Do not use relative paths! - Ensure that the texture types match the existing file names.
For example, the base color of "wood_01_diffuse.jpg" will be "diffuse".
You can use commas to separate different types for example "diffuse, albedo".
The lookup function isn't case-sensitive, and it will add a dash or underscore automatically. - Press the button and the materials will be created in the Blend file.
Note that it will not override any existing materials. - Go to the outliner, change the view to Blender File, go to the material, select all the materials, right-click, and Mark as an asset.
WARNING: High-resolution textures will take some time to generate previews if your computer can't handle that select the material in batches.
Roadmap
- Improve the interface.
- Improve the integration with the asset browser to automate and speed up the entire process.
- Smart materials from textures.
